The world's deadliest killer, HIV/AIDS, and the Birth Control Pill have been carrying on a secret and deadly "love affair" for decades. While women swallowed their "freedom" with the morning orange juice, studies that should have made global headlines yellowed in medical journals, unknown to the general public. Only doctors learned about the pills deadly affair with HIV/AIDS, and they were too busy writing prescriptions for hormonal contraceptives to talk.

More than 50 medical studies, to date, have investigated the association of hormonal contraceptive use and HIV/AIDS infection. The studies show that hormonal contraceptives—the oral pill and Depo-Provera—increase almost all known risk factors for HIV, from upping a woman's risk of infection, to increasing the replication of the HIV virus, to speeding the debilitating and deadly progression of the disease.

I call BS. This "article" purports scientific evidence but lacks proper citation. All the footnotes either lead to other websites with non-scientific articles, or improperly cited supposed articles that can't be looked up since NO JOURNAL TITLE IS GIVEN. I mean really, it doesn't get much more suspect than that. You don't cite "Smith et al, 200" and forget to mention what journal Smith et all were published in, and not even give the title of the supposed article. I don't trust a word of this nonsense.

This "article" purports scientific evidence

The evidence in the case seems only to be a statistical correlation between instances of HIV and use of the "pill." To suggest causation is dishonest. The causation is clearly unprotected sex with questionable partners. Those with an agenda against, what religion would deem as "fornication," will of course jump at the chance to claim that it is the "evil pill" that is a significant cause of spreading HIV!

Pro-life, anti-contraceptive, anti-women's rights propaganda.

Our Mission

Written by PRI

Debunk the myth of overpopulation, which cheapens human life and paves the way for abusive population control programs

Expose the relentless promotion of abortion, abortifacient contraception, and chemical and surgical sterilization in misleadingly labeled “population stabilization,” “family planning,” and “reproductive health” programs.

Defund these programs by exposing the coercion, deception, and racism inherent in them.

Emphasize that people are the most valuable resource on the planet, the one resource we cannot do without.

Promote pro-natal and pro-family attitudes, laws, and policies worldwide.

Encourage programs to help the poor become agents of their own development.

The only legitimate connection I see is that some women who are on the pill may be more lax when it comes to using a condom as the most pressing issue (pregnancy) is taken care of. I admit I am no expert. . .

One of the sources referenced, "Risk of HIV Infection in Oral Contraceptive Pill Users: A Meta-analysis" by Chia Wang states:

Conclusion: This meta-analysis found a significant association between oral contraceptive use and HIV-1 seroprevalence or seroincidence. For women at risk of HIV-1 infection, oral contraceptive use for prevention of pregnancy should be accompanied by condom use for prevention of HIV-1 infection.

As some have stated this doesn't go all the way to assert causation, only correlation (at least in this report).

Another article by Chia Wang demonstrates increased shedding of HIV DNA with use of oral contraceptives: The effect of hormonal contraception on genital tract shedding of HIV-1

Conclusions: A modest but significant increase in shedding of HIV-1 DNA but not of HIV-1 RNA was detected after starting hormonal contraception. Our results may have important implications regarding the infectivity of women using hormonal contraception, and highlight the need for epidemiologic studies of transmission rates from women using and not using hormonal contraception.

Here's one that compared HIV positive women using IUD vs HIV positive women using contraceptives (depo-provera or oral contraceptives) shows faster HIV disease progression with those methods. "DMPA OR ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES MAY RAISE HIV DISEASE PROGRESSION RISK"

Conclusion: In this secondary analysis, exposure to OCPs or DMPA was associated with HIV disease progression among women not yet on ART. This finding, if confirmed elsewhere, would have global implications and requires urgent further investigation.
