Is this a joke?  Apparently not!

The folks at BarackObama.com, who brought you the "call up talk radio shows and we'll give you the talking points" site, now have a new brainchild: The Obama Event Registry! Rather than registering at a department store for gifts that you can use, you can ask them to show their support for your special day by sending a contribution to the re-election campaign.  From the site:

Got a special milestone or event coming up?

Instead of another gift card you’ll forget to use, ask your friends and family for something that will go a little further: a donation to Obama for America. Register your next celebration—whether it’s a birthday, bar or bat mitzvah, wedding, or anniversary—with the Obama campaign. It’s a great way to show your support for a cause that’s important to you on your big day.

The site helps you set up a contribution page somewhat like this one, except it has your event listed on it, and you can send a link to it to all your friends and relatives.

Not sure if they've yet thought of writing to people in hospices asking for the campaign to be included in their will.  Stay tuned!
