It's Sept. 19, 2012 and it's also International Talk Like a Pirate Day. A "holiday" first begun in 1995, it's become a worldwide sensation.
Reportedly, though possibly with a degree of snarkiness (since International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a faux holiday), Wikipedia states that the organizers of the event, John Baur (who goes by the pirate name of Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (who uses the pirate name of Cap'n Slappy) of Albany, Oregon came up with the holiday after a sports injury. One of them injured themselves during a racquetball game and exclaimed "Aaarrr!" (as opposed to the more tradition expletive), and the day was born.
